Dr. Arnab Jan Deka worked in all the wide mass communication media like film, television and radio for almost half a century starting from the year 1978. He earned wide experience as a performer, screenwriter, playwright, original storywriter and director.
‘Srimanta Sankardev : Guru Pranati'(1996) was the first Assamese feature-length movie to enjoy World Premier held on a foreign soil beyond India’s geographical boundaries in the Atlantic City in the United States of America, held on 4th of July 1997 on America’s Independence Day. Dr. Arnab Jan Deka made his directorial debut with this movie. The movie depicted the fascinating life and monumental work of 15th Century Assamese poet, playwright, dance & music exponent, philosopher and social reformer from Assam, Srimanta Sankardev. The movie was based on the extensive research and guidance of renowned Sankari scholar of India on Vaisnavism, a Hindu reformer sect, Principal Bhabananda Deka, and successfully placed the extraordinary work of the Assamese genius at the global stage for the very first time.
Global screening of Dr. Arnab Jan Deka’s directorial debut film was preceded by the historic first visit of the Hollywood film personalities from the USA to his native city of Guwahati, India at his personal invite to connect nascent Assamese film world with Hollywood and beyond in the year 1995 on the occasion of World Cinema Centenary celebrations held all over the world.
